The Delta Record | The community mourns the loss of Commissioner Terry Cutright

BUCKHANNON — The community mourns the loss of a beloved Upshur County Commissioner. On Thursday, September 1, Terry B. Cutright passed away. Cutright was well known and loved by many in Upshur County and some of his constituents offered to share their thoughts on this recent loss.

Upshur County Commission Chairwoman Kristie G. Tenney said, “It was a blessing to have had the opportunity to work alongside Terry Cutright. He will be missed by the entire courthouse and the entire community. It’s hard to believe that our time together on earth has been cut short. Having a colleague who not only was a mentor, but became a close friend, is rare to find. I will always cherish the time I spent with him. Terry had such a kind soul and a generous heart. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to see him give to others time and time again. The impact left by Terry will not be forgotten. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family as they go through this difficult time. »

Fellow Commissioner Samuel R. Nolte said, “Terry will be missed by everyone. He knew so many people and walking down Main Street with Terry, it felt like you knew everyone too. He adored his family and was a good friend of mine before we worked together on the commission. We became very good friends after working together for six years. He was a very frank and honest man and just pleasant to be around. Terry was a great guy to work with, very community minded and always had the best interests of the citizens of Upshur County at heart.

Upshur County Administrator Tabatha Perry said, “I am very fortunate to have worked with Commissioner Cutright for the past seven years. He was a wonderful man with a big heart and an admirable passion for our community. He shared with me many life lessons that I often find myself reflecting on when dealing with everyday situations with my own children. I will cherish these personal and professional discussions we had and am grateful that our life paths crossed. Although saddened by our loss, I look forward to continuing to help the commission complete the projects he helped start that are yet to be completed.

At the Buckhannon Town Council meeting on Thursday evening, Town Recorder Randy Sanders said: ‘Today we mourn the loss of Upshur County Commissioner Terry Cutright. Upshur County has lost one of its leaders and I have lost one of my dearest friends. For nearly 40 years, I have had the honor of lending my voice on radio and my image on television to Ralph’s Furniture. Terry and his son Joe gave me the creative freedom to create commercials providing technical input of course, so I could look like I knew what I was talking about. I was thinking about how to honor Terry tonight and found something online written by Kari Conaway, writer for The delta of records two years ago. I thought it best to pay homage to Terry in his own words in an article he worked with for The delta of records.” Sanders then read the full article which is titled “Remember When…With Terry Cutright” and can be viewed by visiting https://therecorddelta.com/article/remember-whenwith-terry-cutright. Sanders then summed up, “Terry Cutright was a successful man in many ways. Success as a family man, as a businessman, as a civil servant and as a friend. Terry Cutright was only 34 days away from his 72nd birthday. God speed up my friend, Terry Cutright.
