The region has faced water rationing for some time due to low water pressure from the Thulamahashe water treatment plants due to the low level of the river.
The Local Municipality of Bushbuckridge (BLM) believes the donation will go a long way in ensuring sufficient water storage and daily supply to the affected community. The donated tanker will provide more than 250 families with daily access to water.
At the official handover held at Thulamahashe Old Stadium on Thursday, BLM Executive Mayor Cllr Sylvia Nxumalo expressed gratitude for the donation and said it was an important milestone in achieving a constitutional right for the Thulamahashe community.
“We appreciate the gesture of SBS Solutions SA and Salga, who have ensured that water rationing for the community becomes a thing of the past. We are also grateful for the partnership which has made it possible to ensure water security for the population and we hope that this will go far. I urge the people of Thulamahashe to ensure that this precious gift remains in good hands and to refrain from burning government and private sector property, ”Nxumalo said.
