No response under RTI on allegations of corruption in the municipality; First Appeals Officer directs CMO to provide information within 15 days

Lateri (Madhya Pradesh): A resident has been waiting for a response to his questions filed under the Right to Information Act for 5 months. The RTI was filed following the corruption that broke out in Lateri Municipality in Vidisha District.

A Lateri resident, Sandeep Kumar Chaturvedi, had filed a request with RTI in March 2022, requesting information about the poor quality of development work. According to Chaturvedi, he has not received a response despite several visits to the municipality over the past 5 months.

When Chaturvedi did not receive a response from the municipality even after 42 days, he contacted the First Appeals Officer and Joint Director of Urban Administration and Development, Bhopal Division. After hearing the plaintiff’s grievances, the First Appeals Officer scheduled a hearing with Lateri City Manager (CMO), Santosh Parashar.

At the hearing, the officer ordered the CMO to provide information to the plaintiff within 15 days, but to no avail. Recently, the petitioner approached the State Information Commission in Bhopal, whose action on the matter is awaited.
