Margao: Things are looking up on the sanitation front for Margao as several public toilet blocks across the city are set to undergo a major facelift.
Margao City Council (MMC) will soon undertake repairs and renovation of six Sulabh Shouchalaya complexes and toilet blocks located at various locations through Sulabh International.
The state government has given administrative approval for the use of Rs 83.7 lakh under the 14th Finance Commission grants for this purpose.
Two eight-bed Sulabh Shouchalaya resorts located at the entrance of Monte Hill, Margao, and one located near the aerial reservoir in Margao, all priced at over Rs 17 lakh are among those proposed for renovation.
Two six-bedroom Sulabh Shouchalaya complexes, one located near Krishna Temple, Calconda, Margao, and the other at Pedda, Margao, will also be renovated at an estimated cost of Rs 15 lakh each.
Additionally, a three-bed toilet block near Dawood Chawl in Khareband, Margao will also be repaired and refurbished at an estimated cost of Rs 2.5 lakh.
Director of Urban Development Gurudas Pilarnekar, in an order issued to the Director General of MMC, ordered him to undertake the works in accordance with guidelines for the release and use of grants recommended by the 14th Finance Commission for Urban Local Bodies.
