Municipal parks and outdoor recreational spaces ready for summer!

Dive into the long weekend with the opening of some spray parks

With summer fast approaching, the grass and trees are turning green and city crews are hard at work to ensure parks and outdoor recreation spaces are ready to be enjoyed for the season.

Explore outdoor recreation equipment and check their status

From playgrounds and spray parks to tennis courts and extensive trail networks, there are plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities in the area.

Use the Map of parks and facilities to find outdoor recreation facilities in your neighborhood and check if they are open or closed.

Spray parks open for the long weekend

From May 20, spray parks will begin to open and will be available daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Opening:

  • Howard Pew Spray Park
  • Frank Lacroix watering park
  • Parsons Creek North Spray Park
  • Wood Buffalo Spray Park

Firm:

  • Syncrude Sports Park – KP Wong Spray Park
  • Lakewood Spray Park
  • Grayling Terrace Spray Park

Crews are currently making repairs and making sure equipment is safe in closed spray parks.

When using spray parks, be courteous to others and follow all posted signs.

Parks and Trails Etiquette

The area’s outdoor recreation areas are a highlight of every summer! Please use municipal amenities responsibly and follow the rules in place so they can be enjoyed by all.

  • Motorized vehicles are not permitted to be used in parks or on trails in the urban service area.
  • All pets must be kept on a leash, except in off-leash dog parks.
  • Pick up after your pet.
  • Campfires are not permitted in parks or trails and pose serious safety concerns. Fires are permitted in approved pits where there is no fire ban in place.
  • Don’t throw away!

Maintenance of parks, fields, paths and green spaces

The Municipality maintains more than 50 parks, 55 sports fields and playgrounds, 135 km of trails and 800 hectares of green spaces. There’s a lot going on every day, including mowing, pruning, planting, weed and pest control, field rejuvenation, equipment maintenance, and trail maintenance.

Improvements to outdoor recreation areas

Among the construction projects for 2022, the municipality will carry out several outdoor recreation projects this summer, including the rehabilitation of playgrounds, the repair of paths, the improvement of the park and the upgrade of the Abasand OHV assembly area. .
