The best community will be announced by ICF on October 28 after their next ICF Summit 2021: Communities on point .

A smart community, as defined by the ICF, is one that engages local universities and technical schools, entrepreneurs and established businesses as partners in the planning and delivery of innovation projects. It examines what can be achieved in the municipality or region, where their expertise resides, and if some of the expertise and capacity is lacking, what the community needs to do to put them in place. It also means involving the public to help determine how and where innovation needs to happen.

In July 2021, CIF named Mississauga one of the top 7 smart communities in the world. Last month, city staff presented to the ICF jury “ 74 reasons Mississauga is the best smart community . “These reasons range from innovations to activities that promote innovation, inclusion and transparency.
