Get Movin ‘n Groovin’ in Gympie this month

Gympie RSL sub-branch

The Gympie RSL secondary branch recently acquired new premises at 44 Nash Street, Gympie. The goal is to create a wellness center that offers a range of services for the benefit of the Veterans community, their families and the Municipality of Gympie as a whole.

Martin Muller, the Centre’s Manager of Veterans Services, leads a dedicated team of nine people and an amazing core of volunteers.

Martin says, “We used to be a little hole in the wall at the Mary Street RSL Club. Our premises are new, but the sub-branch which is the charitable arm of the Gympie RSL Club is certainly not new and has been supporting veterans and the greater Gympie region since 1919 in the pursuit of its benevolent and charitable goals. In fact, few people realize that the Gympie sub-branch existed before the RSL club of Gympie. We created the club to fund our charities.

Martin explained that the Veterans Service Center deals with a wide range of issues, from helping homeless veterans get back on their feet, to the team that rolls up their sleeves and performs backyard blitz-style cleanups for infirm elderly veterans in need.

“We’re pretty much ready for anything. We have on board two new Veterans Services Officers, a Welfare Support Officer, a Health and Welfare Coordinator, as well as an experienced team of compensation lawyers to assist wounded and sick veterans to access the pensions and compensation claims to which they may be entitled.

“On a lighter and more fun note, October is Veterans Health Month, and we have ‘Monster 21 events’ for Veterans, their families and friends. Events are designed to engage people of all ages and abilities to move and be active.

We called the month Movin’n Groovin ‘. Be sure to check out our calendar of events at – there’s something for everyone.
