Bac Giang City Strives to Become a Green Urban Area | Society

Bac Giang (VNA) – Bac Giang city in the northern province of the same name will mobilize all resources to develop towards a green and smart urban area, said municipal people’s committee chairman Dang Dinh Hoan.

To achieve the objective, the city has set itself to essentially fulfill the criteria of the first level urban area by 2025 and to be recognized as such by 2030.

It aims to increase the per capita income of local residents to 8,500-9,000 USD per year and calls for over 100,000 billion VND (4.41 billion USD) in social sources for development.

The city of Bac Giang will invest and build two or three green and smart urban zones, two to four three and five star hotels, two to three night economic zones and a 100 ha park.

It aims to be among the top 10 provincial towns in the country in terms of smart urban area index; and raise the Digital Economyin the regional gross domestic product at about 30 percent and at least 20 percent in each sector.

The city will work to put power lines underground, build more parks, recreation sites and garbage dumps in the city, and invest in a waste-to-energy plant.

It aims to strengthen the management and monitoring of the water quality of rivers and lakes, as well as the collection and treatment of wastewater from urban areas, industrial parks and clusters. Particular attention will be paid to the discharge activities of enterprises and the treatment of environmental pollution in craft villages, as well as to safety and order in urban areas.

The application of new technologies in agricultural production will be encouraged and an intelligent urban management center will be set up to help with management works.

A security camera system will be installed in the central area of ​​the city, main traffic points and public places. Digitization of archives should be carried out in all areas, as well as e-government applications.

In the times to come, the city of Bac Giang will mobilize all resources to take the leadership of digital transformation, especially in information technology (IT) and communications to meet the demand for building digital government and socio-economic development of the city.

Priorities will be given to the investment and development of high value-added sectors such as the production of hardware and software, and IT and communication support services, with the aim of creating a smart urban base for the city of Bac Giang.

The city, with an area of ​​66.77 m², has 16 administrative units at municipal level. It is the political, economic and cultural pole of Bac Giang province.

Located on an artery connecting Hanoi to Lang Son and the international border post of Huu Nghi, the city enjoys a favorable location on an economic corridor crossing the four localities of Lang Son, Hanoi, Hai Phong and Quang Ninh.

Bac Giang City has made progress over the years, with an average annual economic growth rate during the period 2011-2020 reaching 11.7%. Meanwhile, budget collection has jumped 38 percent from estimates. Urban planning and management have improved as infrastructure has been modernized and the rural area has been given a facelift.

Many major constructions and projects have been completed and have helped to improve the urban and landscape quality of the city, including the Hanoi-Bac Giang and Bac Giang-Lang Son highways, the Dong Son Bridge and the southern urban area, among others.

A number of big investors such as Toyota, Honda and Hyundai have funneled the investments to the city. Bac Giang is now home to around 100 cooperatives and more than 4,000 businesses, including 1,670 newly created with registered capital worth 7,540 billion dong. There are 40 foreign direct investment projects totaling over 236 million USD.
